Washington DC Metropolitan Harbor Patrol

The DC agency responsible for boating safety and vessel registration in DC waters.

U.S. Coast Guard

The District’s waters are covered by Coast Guard Station Washington, at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, under Sector Maryland-National Capital Region. The Coast Guard’s boating-safety site offers vessel safety checks, float plans, and the navigation rules.

DC Fire and EMS

The District’s fire, rescue, and emergency medical department, which responds to emergencies on the city’s rivers as well as on land. In an emergency, call 911.

Potomac River Power Squadron

A local unit of America’s Boating Club (United States Power Squadrons), founded in 1915, offering boating-safety and seamanship courses and free vessel safety checks.

District Waterways Management

A DC Department of Energy and Environment program coordinating the diverse uses of and access to the Anacostia, the Potomac, and the Washington Channel, supporting the District Waterways Advisory Commission.

DC Council — Ward 6

The Council of the District of Columbia office for Ward 6, which includes the club. Councilmember Charles Allen, a strong supporter of DC waterfront recreation, authored the 2022 act creating the District’s Office of Waterways Management and has hosted Anacostia kayak and boat-tour outings for residents.

Anacostia Watershed Society

The organization largely responsible for the cleanup and restoration of the Anacostia watershed, and a special member of our club.

Anacostia Riverkeeper

Anacostia Riverkeeper works to protect and restore the Anacostia River, and is a valued partner of the club.

Potomac River Yacht Clubs Association (PRYCA)

The association of boat and yacht clubs along the Potomac River.

Chesapeake Bay Yacht Clubs Association (CBYCA)

The association of boat and yacht clubs around the Chesapeake Bay.

Capital Yacht Club

A sailing and cruising club at The Wharf on the Washington Channel, and one of the District’s oldest yacht clubs.

District Yacht Club

Our next-door neighbor on Boathouse Row, just up Water Street Southeast on the Anacostia.

Seafarers Yacht Club

One of the oldest African American yacht clubs in the country, and a fellow Anacostia club just up the row. Seafarers started what grew into the annual Anacostia River cleanup.

Washington Yacht Club

A motorboating club on Boathouse Row, established in 1910, and a neighbor on the east bank of the Anacostia. Its clubhouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Anacostia Community Boathouse

A nonprofit community boathouse on the Anacostia, a hub for rowing, paddling, and dragon boating and for public access to the river.

DC Sail

A community sailing program offering public sails, lessons, and youth programs from the Washington Channel.
